Same-Sex Marriage

CA Domestic Partnership Registry
If you and your partner are of the same sex, or if you and your partner are opposite sexes and one partner is at least 62 years old, then you may be eligible to register a domestic partnership with the Secretary of State. You may register by completing a Declaration of Domestic Partnership, having both partners' signatures notarized, and submitting it with the appropriate fee to the Secretary of State.

Equality California
EQCA, on behalf of its members, is the organizational plaintiff in the affirmative lawsuit filed by NCLR, ACLU, Lambda Legal and several law firms challenging CaliforniaÕs discriminatory marriage laws. Additionally, EQCA was a defendant in the lawsuit seeking to overturn CaliforniaÕs domestic partnership law, which EQCA had sponsored.

Freedom to Marry Project
Freedom to Marry is the gay and non-gay partnership working to win marriage equality nationwide. Headed by Evan Wolfson, one of America's leading civil rights advocates and lawyers, Freedom to Marry brings new resources and a renewed context of urgency and opportunity to this social justice movement. Freedom to Marry brings the work of its partner organizations into a larger whole, a shared civil rights campaign that fosters heightened outreach to non-gay allies.

Lambda Legal
Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

Marriage Equality USA
Marriage Equality USA's mission is to secure legally recognized civil marriage equality for all, at the federal and state level, without regard to gender identity or sexual orientation.

The National Center for Lesbian Rights
From a humble yet tenacious focus on the specifics of adoption law, to a broad vision covering almost a dozen diverse issue areas, NCLR has expanded its life- and law-changing work in order to advance the legal landscape for every LGBT person. No stone will go unturned in pursuit of their goal of achieving full and equal access to civil and human rights for all. Their programs focus on employment, immigration, youth, elder law, transgender law, marriage, relationship protections, healthcare and reproductive rights, and family law to create safer homes, safer jobs, and a more just world.
